The Galena Lions Club Sight and Sound Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a graduating high school senior or a current college student who resides in Jo Daviess County and is pursuing studies in the professions that aid the sight and hearing impaired. These professions may include, but are not limited to: Audiologist, Optometrist, Optician, Braille Instructor, Deaf School Teacher, or Optometry assistant.
Scholarships up to $2,000 will be awarded. The scholarship is for payment towards a students tuition, textbooks, or other materials required by the school.
A new application must be submitted every year. Scholarship recipients cannot receive this scholarship for more than four years.
Scholarship applicants must have the following:
1. Accepted for enrollment or presently enrolled in a field of study at a college, university, or other school, and either majoring or planning to major in the areas of sight or sound.
2. Have a current grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
3. Submit a letter to the committee (200-250 words) giving his/her reason for entering this field of study and list goals for after graduation in that field.
4. Provide references from three individuals (no relatives). At least two references must be high school or college instructors, high school or college counselors, or a present or past employer.
